The teacher who suddenly passed away at Independence High School in Raleigh County on Monday, September 11 was identified by officials on Tuesday. We're told Kim Campbell, 54, was found unresponsive in a classroom and was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The cause of her death has not been released.
RALEIGH COUNTY, W. VA. (WVNS) -- An employee at Independence High School passed away suddenly early Monday morning.
School Board Officials said Independence High School dismissed at 11:30 a.m. Monday as a result.
Raleigh County Schools Superintendent David Price released a statement on the passing of the Independence faculty member:
"It’s a sad day for Raleigh County Schools and the Independence High School Family," Price said. "One of our teachers was found unresponsive in her classroom, due to a medical condition, at approximately 8:10 am. Trained medical professionals at school and first responders acted immediately and transported her to the local hospital where she was pronounced dead. This teacher will be greatly missed by all."
No names have been released at this hour.
Counselors from local schools and agencies will be available immediately for grief counseling.
