Deputies with the McDowell County Sheriff's Office announced on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015 that an officer with the Welch Police Department was arrested.  Sherman Patrick McKinney, 52, ia charged with Stalking and Harassing.

The victim told sheriff's deputies on Monday that McKinney had been using his position as an officer with the Welch Police Department to follow and harass her and her family.  The harassment had apparently been going on since July 2014.  She told deputies that McKinney had repeatedly followed her whenever she came into his jurisdiction.  According to the criminal complaint, he had even pulled her over in his patrol car and asked her to have sex with him.  The victim's 8-year-old daughter was apparently in the car when McKinney pulled her over.

The victim did state that she had been in a relationship with McKinney, but had ended it when she began reconciling with her husband.  She said that calls to the Mayor of Welch and the Welch Police Chief did not stop the harassment.  She also filed a domestic violence petition against McKinney in Wyoming County Magistrate Court on Tuesday

McKinney was arraigned in McDowell County Magistrate Court.  He was released on a $1,000 bond.  Deputies are asking for anyone who may have had similar experiences with the suspect to contact the McDowell County Sheriff's Office at 304-436-8522.
