Family in Raysel, McDowell County left homeless after their house burns down
Fire officials are still unsure of the cause of the fire that destroyed a home in Raysal, WV on Thursday night. The Uncle of the Homeowner told me the family is still trying to get on their feet and work through this terrible situation.
"They didn't make it out with much, just what they were wearing basically. It was very upsetting to them," Ernest Baker, the victims uncle said.
The father was working at the time and couldn't believe what he saw when he got home.
"To come in from work and find that was devastating because u think of all the hard work you done and then this happens,"
To make matters worse, the family said they caught someone trying to steal from their basement as the house was still burning.
Family members say the community reaction has been great..clothes and shoes have been donated to the family to help get them back on their feet.
Fire officials say the cause of the fire is unknown and the fire marshal will be coming to investigate the cause.
A fire late Thursday night leaves a family in McDowell County homeless. Everyone was able to get out of the home in Raysal safely, but a friend of the family, who saved their dog, told us it was a very close call.
"The littlest boy wake the mom up and told her it stunk and said it smelled like firecrackers. She got up and there was so much smoke she could hardly see. She got the baby and then got everyone out," said Bradley Stacy.
War, Bradshaw and Raysal fire departments cleared the scene by 7 a.m. Friday.
