Man charged for stealing lottery tickets WV State Fair
West Virginia State Police arrested a Greenbrier County man for stealing lottery tickets from the West Virginia Lottery booth at the state fair.
Cody Arbuckle was arrested Thursday, Aug 14, 2014 and taken to Southern Regional Jail.
Arbuckle was charged with breaking and entering and grand larceny after he tried to steal $35,000 worth of lottery tickets.
Sgt. Drew Pendleton of the West Virginia State Police said Arbuckle is known to police in Greenbrier County.
"He has been arrested before, and we did have a photo of him," Pendleton said. "Him and several other fit the description of people known to law enforcement, and we were able to identify him."
Pendleton said Arbuckle took lottery tickets and stuffed them into a trash can then tried to leave the fairgrounds, but he didn't get very far.
"Two food service workers that work in the food court booths spotted him leaving, and kind of stopped him to see what was going on, because something looked suspicious," Pendleton said. "There was an argument about it; he took off running left all the lottery tickets that he had stolen."
The workers notified the state police that were at the state fair and police used the description given to them and matched it with Arbuckle, and witnesses picked him out of a line up.
Arbuckle was arraigned on Friday and his bail was set at $5,000.
