Summers County hoping to build off last years success

Posted: Updated:
Last year, in Nate Tanner's first year at the helm of the Bobcat program, he gave the Bobcats an identity.

With the players already familiar with him as an assistant coach, he wasted no time paving the way for success.

"Well I've told these kids last year the foundation was set," he said.  "We're just trying to build on to that foundation and build onto the house."

That foundation set last year, was a sturdy one.  Summers County only had two losses and hosted their first home playoff game.

This year, the mentality to build where they left off.

"Going 9 and 2 last year, that's a lot of pressure to uphold as a senior," said Zach Grady.

The bricks to this Bobcat structure are already in place, a returning starting quarterback in Matt Ryan, the entire offensive line coming back and a deep bench.

"This year I think we'll have an overall better team, there's not as big of a drop-off as we had last year so it's looking good," said Tanner.

While program is growing, the fan support is too.  The team does not take "Bobcat Nation" for granted.

As the saying goes, 'Rome wasn't built in a day', but with a year under his belt, Tanner plans to continue building this team from the bottom up.
