Brandon Coomes is arrested on arson charges
A man was arrested Friday in Matoaka on Arson charges.
Matoaka Police Chief John Sommers says they arrested Brandon Coomes for setting an apartment building on fire.
Coomes is being charged with first degree arson.
Police say Coomes started this fire causing four-million dollars in damages.
The building is in a former hotel on Barger Street that was converted into an apartment building.
No injuries were reported, but some people are displaced.
One lane of Route 10 is back open.
Crews from several fire departments in Mercer County are on the scene of a fire that happened at an apartment building in Matoaka, WV. Crews were dispatched at around 11:17 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 8.
The fire started in an old hotel on Barger St. that has since been converted to an apartment building. Firefighters from nine departments are on the scene of the blaze, including Mullens Fire Department in Wyoming County. The fire is being investigated as a possible arson.
The Matoaka Police Chief has arrested two people for obstructing firefighters. Police in the town have also shut down Route 10 in the area to accommodate crews working to put the fire out. People are advised to find an alternate route until the scene is cleared.
