Teachers and school staff from around the state are gathered at Stonewall Resort on Thursday.
Representatives of 22 high schools around West Virginia are meeting with state Department of Education officials to discuss efforts with the Safe and Supportive Schools grants.
The grants are designed to help schools improve the lives and education of their student through improvements in education and the school environment.
"We're looking at our attendance rates, our discipline rates, and just trying to figure out ways to make positive changes in our schools and actually improve them to have better outcome and better climate throughout the whole educational system," said the Department of Education's Joshua Grant.
The conference continues through Friday afternoon.
