Child Killed, Three Others Injured in Tyler County Camper Fire
One child was killed and three others suffered serious burns after a fire in Tyler County early Monday morning.
Tyler County Sheriff Sheriff Bob Kendle said at approximately 1:05 a.m., Tyler County 911 received a call reporting a camper fire with a child trapped inside on Big Run Road near Alma. Deputies from the Tyler County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene as well as units from the Middlebourne and Shirley volunteer fire departments, as well as an emergency squad from Alma.
Upon arrival, responders found the camper fully engulfed and witnesses on the scene alerted them that a child was inside. After the blaze was extinguished, the child's body was discovered in the camper. Witnesses at the scene also said that a man, woman and another child had let the scene and traveled to Pine Grove, West Virginia, for help; however, Kendle said he had not spoken with those individuals to confirm their actions. The three who left the scene were transported to the West Penn Burn Center in Pittsburgh where their condition remained unknown as of Monday morning.
The West Virginia State Fire Marshal was on the scene Monday. The investigation continues.
