WVU has spent more than $250 million on construction for the campus, and that's just for academic buildings. On Tuesday, July 1 the university unveiled the newest completion on the Evansdale campus.
"It's our first brand new building; others that have been completed have been additions," said Rob Moyer, director of facilities planning and scheduling at WVU. "This is the first one."
The Health and Education Building is kicking off a string of construction projects nearing completion on campus. It's is split into two parts. One side will house the WVU health care clinics and the pharmacy with general purpose classrooms and the College of Physical Activity and Sports Sciences on the opposite side.
The CPASS staff and students have a lot to look forward to in their new home. The main thing being space.
"Number on the classrooms, the classrooms, the classrooms," Dana Brooks, Dean of CPASS, said. "All of our technology based classrooms have state of the art technology, Wifi system throughout the building. The second would be our state of the art laboratory, a 46 seat laboratory, state of the art computers. Very exciting."
The university just finished up additions added onto the College of Law and renovations are underway inside of the building.
There's also several public-private partnerships including housing developments, and the new baseball stadium that will be finished within the next few months.
Each project is exciting for the university to finally let the public see the finished product. A lot of works goes into bringing a design to life.
"All of these capitol projects usually take about four years from concept to completion and getting ready for the move in. It's always a great opportunity to celebrate that," said Moyer. "That's what it's is all about, letting the occupants and the community tour the building before we start moving them in. We look forward to the Art Museum, and AG, and Engineering to be completed within the year."
The next academic building that should be ready to show off to the public is the Art Museum. It's going to open some time in Fall 2014.
