After 40 Years, Capitol Theatre's Original Pipe Organ Returns From Connecticut
A piece of Wheeling's history has come home to the Capitol Theatre.
The theater's original pipe organ, long gone from Wheeling, has sat in storage for the past 40 years in Connecticut, but recently, the owners decided to give the organ back to Wheeling. The first of two moving van loads pulled up on the walking trail early Monday morning behind the Capitol Theatre and crews unloaded it, piece by piece.
Officials said the organ is in hundreds of pieces and will be stored in the theater's basement - the former bowling alley - for a while. The keyboard portion will be displayed in the Capitol's front window, for people to see from Main Street.
The organ is worth nearly a quarter of a million dollars.
