On Monday, classes will begin in Marshall County for graduating high school seniors who wish to get their mining card.
An 80-hour training course will allow students to be eligible to apply for positions in local underground mines.
This will be the third year Marshall County schools has offered the program, and about 80 percent of the graduates from the training program are currently employed in the mining field. Steve Perkins of WVU is the instructor for the training and has more than 20 years experience working in underground mines.
The classes will be held at the Agriculture Science Building at John Marshall High School. Classes will meet starting Monday and continue through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The program will wrap up June 30.
