State-wide initiative "What's next, West Virginia?" is launched
A new state-wide initiative is launching. It's called "What's Next, West Virginia?"
It's a non-partisan organization of schools, elected officials, businesses, government agencies and faith based groups working to help communities plan actions based on their own ideas.
The goal is to build stronger local economies.
"For example, the last state-wide dialogue was on prescription drug abuse. So it's whatever is on everyone's minds and the tips of their tongues and what needs to be brought into a place of civic engagement," said co-coordinator Catherine Moore.
A few groups involved in the initiative so far are the State Bureau of Public Health, West Virginia Public Broadcasting and the United Way.
The official launch is June 4th and 5th at the University of Charleston's Civic Life Institute. It is open to the public.
