The West Virginia Board of Education has appointed Gabe Devono as superintendent of Gilmer County Schools.
The decision was made during the WVDE's monthly meeting in Charleston. Gilmer County schools, which are operating under state intervention, must make improvements in leadership, technology, facility, personnel, and finance issues in the county to regain local control.
Devono has 40 years of experience in education as a teacher, school administrator, county office supervisor, assistant superintendent, and vocational director, said a news release from the WVDE. Devono is presently serving as the executive director of the largest Regional Education Service Agency. "I hope to provide technical assistance and support to my employees, both professional and service, to continue providing an excellent education to the students of Gilmer County," said Devono in a news release. "Also, I am excited about opening two new, state-of-the-art schools to give our students a 21st century advantage and become productive citizens in the workforce."
