UPDATE: Ritchie County Sheriff's Deputy Facing Felony Charge
Ritchie County Sheriff's Department Corporal Jim Asbury appeared in court on Tuesday for a preliminary hearing.
He's facing a felony charge of falsifying accounts and is accused of lying about how many hours he had worked while being paid for them.
He appeared in front of a special magistrate from Pleasants County and special prosecutor from Harrison county.
Probable cause was found in the case, and it will now go to a grand jury.
A Ritchie County Sheriff's Deputy is facing a felony charge of falsifying accounts and is accused of lying about how many hours he had worked while being paid for them.
Ritchie County Sheriff Bryan Backus said Cpl. Jim Asbury was arrested Friday and released on a $10,000 bond. "This is one of the worst events that can happen in either the deputy's career or the administration's," said Sheriff Backus in a news release.
Backus said he is not able to disclose further information about the arrest due to the ongoing investigation. Further charges against Cpl. Asbury could be filed.
Cpl. Asbury is suspended with pay while the investigation continues.
