A super-fast broadband data network is strengthening ties between two key research institutions in West Virginia.
The National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Green Bank and West Virginia University have launched the powerful link to increase collaboration and scientific research between the two.
The new system is more than 200 times faster than the observatory's previous data link. That allows scientists and students to more effectively conduct research using the Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope. The link allows WVU researchers to take full advantage of an agreement with the observatory.
The university pledged $1 million over two years to support personnel and operations linked to the telescope. It also allows WVU 500 hours of time on the telescope.
