Greenbrier West coaches to lead South in annual WV North-South Football Classic

Posted: Updated:

Every year the West Virginia North-South Football Classic is a big event statewide. This year, some of the Greenbrier West coaches will be coaching the South team.

The annual football game in June is a showcase of the best high school talent in the state. This year West's Lewis McClung was named head coach of the South team.

"We're excited. It's going to be fun, hopefully we can go out and represent the community and Greenbrier West High School well and do a good job, that's what we want to do," said McClung.

He and his staff lead the Cavaliers to 12-2 season in 2013 topping it off with an appearance in the state championship game.

His assistant coaches were announced this week and he chose much of his own staff to follow him to Charleston. GWHS assistant coaches Jeremy Tincher and Kelly Vaughan, as well as Nicholas County head coach Gene Morris will help coach the Cardinals.

The annual North-South game is legendary and to be invited is an honor. With ample amount of talented athletes in the mountain state, the decision of who to select for the 2014 team will be difficult one.

"Hopefully we are going to pick kids with great athletic ability and great character that are going to go down there and put forth good effort and pull out a win."

The game is set for June 21st at 7p.m. in Charleston.
