At Mountaineer Montessori School in Kanawha City, students saw the possibilities in a pile of plastic.
Art teacher Nancy Johnston has led the students in several repurposed projects in recent years, such as a wall-sized replica of their school made out of plastic jar and bottle caps.
The January water crisis created a large supply of materials for even more recycled art activities, and students created towers out of water bottles and plastic cups they had been using at the school throughout the month.
The school has served about 1,000 students since it was founded in 1976. It currently provides academic and cultural curriculum to 100 students ages three through 12, and all lead faculty are fully certified by the American Montessori Society or Association Montessori Internationale.
