If you cast your ballot on Election Day, there’s a strong chance are you did it in a school or other public building. Schools and churches in the Mountain State are the most common locations for setting up polling places. And it’s been that way for a long time.

HUNTINGTON, WV -

Upon the announcement of a tree disposal system, the city of Huntington's Sanitation's and Trash Division secured five locations around the city where residents can drop off their Christmas trees.

The disposal of the trees is free to city residents.

Those locations include:

- St. Cloud Commons (upper parking lot)

- Harris Riverfront Park (upper parking lot on the 12th

- Altizer Community Park

- West end of the former Olympic Pool property

- Deitz Hollow drop-off site. (The times for this specific location are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.)

All other locations will take the trees from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday and on the third Saturday of the month.

Trees that are left at the drop-off locations will be taken to East Lynn Lake in Wayne County, where they will be used for fish habitats.

City residents who are unable to take their trees to the drop-off locations can schedule a free pick-up at their residence by calling 304-696-4431 between 6:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Sanitation and Trash Division will pick up the tree on the same day as weekly household garbage.

The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection and West Virginia  Division of Natural Resources will also hold a Christmas tree recycling event in downtown Charleston. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4 at the Capitol Market.
