Forest Festival Crowns Houchin Queen Silvia LXXVII

Ceremonies were held Friday to officially crown Ashley Elizabeth Houchin Queen Silvia LXXVII of the Mountain State Forest Festival.

Governor Earl Ray Tomblin, along with local dignitaries, was on hand to witness the pomp and circumstance.

This is the 77th year for the festival.

Houchin is from Calhoun County.

Her gown was a velvet gown in the color mostly of royal sapphire blue.

The coronation ceremonies are the highlight of the festival, and brings people from in state and out of state.

"It's like a family tradition for us to come down here. I like the wood chopping. I'll be down here very early tomorrow morning to get my seats so I can watch that. I love the parade, and I just love the town of Elkins. I love coming down here, the leaves are beautiful. It's a nice place," said Myron Sainovich, of Beaver Falls. Pa.

The grand feature parade will be held on Saturday, October 5. in Elkins.
