Walk to End Alzheimer's in Mount Hope

Posted: Updated:

This year's Walk to End Alzheimer's is kicking off Saturday, 7th on the campus of Appalachian Bible College in Mount Hope.

The event serves to bring the community together to help raise critical resources to support the local individuals and families who face this disease as well as supporting research funds to find a cure.

Registration is free, but walkers are encouraged to raise $100 to earn a commemorative Walk to End Alzheimer's t-shirt.

The Walk committee has an ambitious goal this year to raise $33,000 for the Alzheimer's Association, West Virginia Chapter.

Teams and individual participants can register online at www.alz.org/wv or by calling 800-272-3900.  Event day registration begins at 9 a.m. and the Walk kicks off at 10 a.m. The day will feature food, prizes and the opportunity to celebrate loved ones lost to this devastating disease while taking vital steps to end it.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Alzheimer's is the sixth leading cause of death in the U.S.  As baby boomers age, the number of individuals affected by Alzheimer's disease will continue to escalate, increasing well beyond today's more than 5 million Americans living with Alzheimer's.
