Fairmont City Council held a work session Sept. 5 to discuss plans and ideas it has for Palatine Park.
Plans to redevelop and improve Palatine Park started back in early July after the Marion County Commission purchased property from CSX Railroad, which is adjacent to the park.
City Manager Jay Rogers presented two plans to Fairmont City Council members at the meeting.
One plan discussed building a pavilion at the park and another idea was to build an indoor farmers market on recently purchased CSX property.
Rogers said he feels the indoor farmers market could also house retail space and offices. Fairmont Mayor Ron Straight said council wants to partner with the county.
"We need to sit down county and city and work though these things and I'm sure there's a lot of other legal issues that we need to look at as far as property and what you can do and what you cant do. So you know we're going to work together," said Mayor Ron Straight.
Straight said a partnership with the county is key and essential in moving forward.
Residents at the work session spoke about their excitement for the future of the park and said they want to their grandchildren to be able to enjoy all the park has to offer in the city.
