It's been almost one year since a Derecho rocked the Mountain State.
On Wednesday the Southern West Virginia Preparedness Partnership met to stress the importance of preparing for such weather-related events.
Kevin Taylor with Beckley Emergency Services explained what was discussed.
"Have fuel in your car, have water and non-perishable food at your home, have contacts and spare batteries for radios and cell phones. All of those things we take for granted until we find out that they are not there," Taylor said.
Taylor encouraged everyone to stay well informed and always have a basic emergency kit in your home and vehicle.
