"Day of Hope" preparation begins


Groceries, Health Screenings and Live Entertainment will be handed out to families this summer. The name of the event is "Day of Hope," and it is planned for August 17 at 10 a.m., but before the distribution begins, there is a call going out for volunteers.

Planning for the "Day of Hope" begins on Monday, April 29.  Pastors of area churches and community leaders are asked to come out for a vision casting luncheon at noon or a reception at 7 p.m.  Those events will be held at Cross Point Church of God on Crescent Road in Beckley.  Those wish to attend the planning meeting need to contact the church by Friday, April 26.  The phone number there is 304-252-0717.

The "Day of Hope" will need around 750 volunteers from local churches, businesses and community organizations.  They plan to distribute 35,000 pounds of groceries at the Paul Cline Memorial Soccer Complex in Beckley.  Everyone who attends will have access to free health screenings, free lunch, live entertainment and a Kids Zone for the children.  The goal is offer hope by addressing both spiritual and physical needs.

This is the first year for this event and several churches have already signed on to help.  Those include Convoy of Hope, Calvary Assembly of God, Cross Point Church of God, Faith Community Church, Family Worship Center, First Baptist Church, First Christian Church and Heart of God Ministries
