Women's Track Competes at Duke Invitational

DURHAM, N.C. -

Ashleigh Taylor placed 10th in the high jump while several other members of the Concord University women's track and field team ran season-best times this weekend at the Duke Invitational.

Taylor cleared 1.58 meters, 0.02 meters off of her season-high, to record CU's lone top-10 finish of the meet.

In the 5,000-meter run, Cheyenne Nicely and Cortney Vannatter both ran season-best times of 20:43.26 and 20:43.59 to place back-to-back in 12th and 13th place.

Fellow distance runner Tabitha Whited qualified for the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference outdoor championships in when she completed the 10,000-meter run in 39:23.45. The time was also good enough to take 14th place in the race.

Donnie Kirk made an improvement over her previous top 400-meter hurdle time in 2013 by clocking a 1:04.99 race and placing 15th overall.

Other season-low times included Micalyn Miller in the 3,000-meter run (12:14.61 / 19th place), the duo of Demi Kirk (25.90 seconds) and Crystal Jones (28.47 seconds) in the 200-meter dash as well as the 800-meter run pairing of Rene Miller (2:37.74) and Kali Northrup (2:55.51).

Rounding out Concord's top performers this weekend was Casey Ord, who finished 24th in the 100-meter dash at a time of 12.69 seconds.

Concord will compete in its final meet before the WVIAC Championships when it travels to the Aggie Classic in Greensboro, N.C. April 12-13.
