HUNTINGTON (AP) -

Andrew Wiggins is the Gatorade Boys National Basketball Player of the Year.

Wiggins learned about the award in class Wednesday in Huntington during a surprise visit from past winner and former Miami Heat star Alonzo Mourning.

He's the first Canadian to win the honor. The senior adds to the Naismith Foundation national player of the year award he received last month.

Wiggins attends St. Joseph's Central and plays for Huntington Prep. He averaged 23.4 points and 11.2 rebounds per game this season.

Wiggins has yet to announce his college choice. He's being heavily recruited by Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina and Florida State.

He's the son of former NBA first-round pick Mitchell Wiggins and sprinter Marita Payne-Wiggins, a two-time Olympic silver medalist. Older brother Nick plays guard at Wichita State.
