The man who has lead Clinch Valley Medical Center for the past seven years will take over the leadership at Raleigh General Hospital.
On Thursday, March 21 leaders at Raleigh General Hospital announced that David Darden was appointed the new Chief Executive Officer. Darden will take over the office on May 1. He is replacing Allen Peters, who stepped down as CEO in January for health reasons.
"We are fortunate to have someone of David's caliber lead the team at Raleigh General Hospital," said Robert Klein, LifePoint Hospitals Chief Operating Officer for the Central Group.
Darden was the CEO at Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands, Va. He took over that hospital, which is also a part of LifePoint, back in 2006. According to a release, under Darden's leadership, Clinch Valley significantly improved patient, Physician and employee satisfaction. In 2008 and 2011 CVMC received LifePoint Hospitals' High Five Award.
Darden also served as Chief Operating Officer and CEO of Raleigh General Hospital from 1994 to 2001 when the facility was a part of HCA.
"We are pleased that David has accepted this important leadership position and is returning to Raleigh General and the Beckley Community," said RGH Board of Trustees Chair, Mike Darby. "With his leadership experience and his knowledge of our community, David is in the uniquely qualified position to lead our hospital to growth and success in the future. Darden holds a Master of Science degree in healthcare administration from Trinity University in Texas. His Bachelor of Science degree is from Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia.
