The West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine is recognized as one of the nation's top medical schools for rural medicine for the 15th year in a row.
The school ranked number 9 in rural medicine by the U.S.News & World Report.
It's also ranked 13th in family medicine.
President Michael Adelman said teaching rural medicine is important especially in West Virginia because so many people do not have convenient access to doctors and hospitals.
He said, "By producing more primary care physicians that practice in rural areas, we're providing better access to citizens of West Virginia especially but our students do go elsewhere as well."
Among all medical schools in the nation, WVSOM is number 3 in the percentage of graduates entering primary care residences from 2010 to 2012.
