Univ. of Charleston freezing tuition in '13-14

The University of Charleston is freezing tuition for undergraduate students at its Charleston campus.

The university announced Tuesday that tuition and fees will remain at $19,500 in the 2013-14 school year.

Students at the university's Beckley and Martinsburg campuses will continue using a pay-per-credit cost structure. The cost of many courses will remain the same, while some health science courses will see small increases.

President Ed Welch says the private university is "committed to holding down costs to be affordable."

Last fall, the university cut tuition for new students by 22%, or a savings of $5,500.
