A former PikeView high school teacher is arrested and charged with 18 felonies of sex abuse.

The charges just kept piling up as Magistrate Honaker rattled off the felonies former coach and teacher Jonathan Kirk is facing.

State police said 34-year-old, Kirk turned himself in on Monday, March 18, 2013 to State Police and was arraigned in front of Magistrate Honaker.

59 News told viewers on air and online Kirk stepped down from his position at PikeView High School as assistant football coach and gym teacher in late January.

A handcuffed and humiliated Kirk was brought into court with his head hanging low.  According to State Police, it was a complaint from a student that cracked the case open.

"I was given the list of potential victims or witnesses and interviews were conducted and from there on, we got a search warrant for Mr. Kirk's cell phone," Sgt. Melissa Clemons, WVa. State Police said.

The investigation led Sgt. Clemons to interview 11 alleged victims ages 16 to 18, all dating back to 2010.  59 News got a copy of the criminal complaint that details 7 of the alleged victim's accounts of what happened.

While the criminal complaint is graphic, the accusations alleged Kirk had inappropriate relations with several students.  According to the complaint, it alleged Kirk communicated with several females in person and online in a sexual manner.  It also alleged, Kirk inappropriately touched, asked for sexual favors, sent explicit pictures and requested explicit pictures from several alleged victims.

"It is very troubling. We are made as parents to send out children to school where we think our children will be safe and we have instances like this and it is upsetting it is troubling to everybody," Sgt. Clemons said.

59 News has uncovered Kirk worked previously for the Oak Hill School District before moving to Mercer County School District in 2010.

Kirk's wife stood by her husband's side and had an emotional reaction to the hefty bond that was set. Magistrate Honaker set bond at $100,000 cash only. Kirk remained silent through the entire arraignment.
