West Virginia State Police made an arrest on Thursday, Jan. 3 in a sexual assault case involving a teenage girl.
Troopers tell 59News that Steven Malay faces several counts of sex assault and sex abuse. The crimes happened in Fayette County where Malay had a job as a school bus driver. Malay faces two counts of third degree sexual assault and 2 counts of sexual abuse by a guardian.
The alleged assault involves a 14-year-old girl, who went to school on Malay's bus. The criminal complaint given to 59News by police said Malay had sexual encounters with the teen twice at her home in Oak Hill.
"When you have an incident such as this you have to realize that the most important thing is the safety," said Fayette County School Superintendent, Keith Butcher. "Not only of our students and our staff members but our system."
Butcher went on to say that the school officials will double their efforts to ensure that all employees are aware of the professional code of conduct.
Malay was released on bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 23, in front of Magistrate Young.
