June Jones, 88, of Crab Orchard appears to be the first storm related death in our area.
Raleigh County Sheriff, Steve Tanner, confirmed the identity of Mrs. Jones with 59News on Friday afternoon. She died somewhere overnight between Monday, Oct. 29 and Tuesday, Oct. 30. Family members had apparently checked on her in the evening hours and found her body outside the next morning when they returned.
According to the Sheriff, Mrs. Jones may have suffered from dementia. He said she apparently went out to sweep leaves and was not dressed for the cold weather. The State Medical examiner determined that the cause of death was hypothermia. Sheriff Tanner said there was no sign of foul play involved.
