Finding A Family: John's Story

John John

"When you get on one of these bikes what does it make you feel like?" I asked John. He pauses and answers: "I'm free."

John is a 16-year-old kid, with a passion for action.

"I like to play football, a lot of sports, love to run," he said.

You can say he's nothing but a guy's guy. "Do you like animals?" I asked him. "I like reptiles," he smiled. "Snakes."

For someone who likes pepperoni pizza, Bob Seger music, and action sports, it was surprising to learn John has another side.

"I'm kinda like an emotional person," he said. "Write my feelings down a lot."

John expresses himself in poetry. He shares one of his excerpts: "My life right now is full of hatred. My life right now is all but sacred. I live my life the way I should. I live my life and try to be good."

He's been without a family for many years now, but that's something he wants to turn around.

"What would it mean to find a family?" I asked him. "A lot," he said. "Another step in my life."

"What do you want to find in a dad?" I asked him. "He likes sports, kind of same things I like; being out more, fishing hunting, stuff like that." "And a mom?" He paused. "A loving mom."

John's birthday is in a few days, but there's really only one big thing on his list.

"Why do you want a family?" I asked him. "So I can have support."

In the meantime, he keeps moving forward.
